Lovingkindness

Music and lyrics by Charity Kahn

©2009 Charity Kahn

In writing this song, I was inspired by the Buddhist practice of Lovingkindness (also known as Metta), but the intention is universal. In the practice, you send wishes for happiness, health, safety and peace to yourself and then to others in ever-widening circles of love. Sing this song with your children in the morning to set the intention for the day, or at the end of a class or event to "send out the love". Our love is powerful!

Lyrics

CHORUS
May I be happy, may I be well
May I be safe and sound
May I be peaceful, may I be at ease
With love in my heart and all around
May you be happy, may you be well
May you be safe and sound
May you be peaceful, may you be at ease
With love in your heart and all around

VERSE 1
You can sing your love
You can dance your love
You can play your love
Today, my love
You can laugh your love
You can cry your love
You can walk your love
And you can fly your love
All around

CHORUS
May I be happy, may I be well
May I be safe and sound
May I be peaceful, may I be at ease
With love in my heart and all around
May you be happy, may you be well
May you be safe and sound
May you be peaceful, may you be at ease
With love in your heart and all around

VERSE 2
You can sit with your love
You can breathe with your love
You can listen to your love
It's in your heart, my love
You can share your love
You can shine your love
You can be your love
And you can spread your love
All around

CHORUS
May we be happy, may we be well
May we be safe and sound
May we be peaceful, may we be at ease
With love in our hearts and all around
May we be happy, may we be well
May we be safe and sound
May we be peaceful, may we be at ease
With love in our hearts and all around

* Dance along! Here is a link to the movements: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YGaumwvKyM

* Go around the circle and the children to whom they'd like to send their love and wishes for peace today.

*After singing the song, use a bell or singing bowl to "send out the love". Ring it three times, and have the children listen quietly and imagine their love traveling out on the sound of the bell to all the people and animals in the world, and even the plants and trees and the Earth herself, wishing that all beings may be happy, healthy, safe and at peace.
