Manners

Music and lyrics by Judy Caplan Ginsburgh

©1994 Judy Caplan Ginsburgh

This song is about good manners.  At the time I wrote it, I was a music specialist teaching in a large preschool.  I would always try to coordinate my music classes with themes that the teachers were introducing to the students.  I was having trouble finding songs about manners, so I wrote one.  Manners covered in this song are: please, thank you, excuse me, I'm sorry.

Lyrics

CHORUS

Being nice and having manners,

these are things that we all should know

Let's be nice and have some manners

Are you ready?  Here we go!

Verse:

If someone is talking, say, "excuse me."

Say, "Excuse me" and you may speak (2x)

CHORUS

If you hurt someone, say you're sorry.

Say you're sorry and then be friends (2x)

CHORUS

When you want something, ask for it nicely,

When you want something, just say "please."

Being nice and having manners,

These are things that we all should know

I hope that you have learned some manners,

Thank you now and you may go.

You can act out scenarios where you would use these manners words.  You can "zip" other manners words into the song.
