This song is the direct result of a writing challenge. In 2014 I was contacted by a talent agency that had heard some of my family-friendly comedy songs on Reverbnation.com, and they suggested I should try writing for children. I was supposed to write three new kids’ songs in a week! “The Stars Go By” is based on the fanciful question of whether kids can go into space. They say you should write about things you know, and just by happenstance, I’m a space scientist in real life. So I tried to include some fun facts about the solar system while keeping it light with a folk-style setting.
