This Puerto Rican song is a bomba, which is a genre of music in which drumming and dancing are very closely connected, and in which the dancers usually lead the drummers rather than the other way around.
Rule rule rule sonda
Repicame la bomba, rule sonda
Bomba's from Puerto Rico but first from Africa
Repicame la bomba, rule sonda
Drum along with this exciting Puerto Rican bomba. In bomba dancers lead the drummers. Teacher can show students a number of simple drumming patterns that correspond to teacher movements, then lead the drumming by changing dance moves throughout the song.
CMN's Multicultural Songbook is an anthology of some of the best songs originating from (or about) countries beyond the United States, often sung in languages other than English. In sharing songs of other cultures, we broaden the global understanding of our children so that they might see themselves as part of a larger world of people, not so unlike themselves, who hope, dream, play and learn in far-away lands sometimes in unfamiliar--but equally interesting--languages.
