Awa Yombei

Music by traditional, lyrics by traditional (arrangement by Jay Sand)

A rather nonsensical yet catchy “African play song” from The Gambia in West Africa in which the kids clap, sing and mimic each other while dancing. “Awa Yombei” is the name of girl who, in the course of the song, we follow in her marching, jumping and flying around.

Lyrics

Awa yombei, yombei yo!, Awa yombei, yombei yo!
Walk around now
Awa Yombei, yombei yo! Awa yombei, yombei yo!

Everyone can dance, sing, jump, fly and swim along to this one, with an enthusiastic teacher leading kids around the classroom. You'll find suggestions in this video
